Are you sure this lady would have used an arrow with such well defined barbs? Its my understanding that in war,barbed arrows were only used to attack horses.
Hi Chris, Yes, I think you're generally right, I don't think a lady of this period would usually be shooting an arrow like this. At the time of making this image I was researching the role medi women had in sieges & battles, and in particular, in defence of their homes. So here I was experimenting with showing a woman shooting a very nasty war arrow! It's more of a conjectural drawing really, not meant to illustrate 'fact', just to prompt discussion, which it has! The clothes are wrong for that situation anyway: as an archer myself, I know it'd be horrid to try & shoot in one of those style crespinette headpieces! But thanks for looking, and for your feedback! I'm always keen to hear from people :)
